Monaco cited the need to protect consumers using decentralized systems and cryptocurrency’s role in facilitating ransomware attacks as impetus for the new program. The program will be housed within the DOJ’s Criminal Division. Contractors that cover up data breaches will be pursued civilly by the new cybersecurity program.

Pharmaceutical executive Martin Shkreli released from prison early

Former pharmaceutical executive Martin Shkreli was released from prison Wednesday after serving most of his seven-year sentence for securities fraud. Shkreli began his activities in the pharmaceutical industry in 2015 when he acquired Daraprim from Impax Laboratories. Shkreli was scheduled to be released in September, 2023.
