The US Department of Justice (DOJ) Tuesday announced the indictments of eight leaders of a human smuggling operation (HSO) at the US-Mexico border. The effort was a part of the DOJ’s Joint Task Force Alpha , a law enforcement task force assembled in June 2021 to combat dangerous human smuggling and trafficking groups operating out of Latin America.

A German court Tuesday rejected a lawsuit filed by environmental group Deutsche Umwelthilfe intended to bar Mercedes-Benz from selling cars with combustion engines that emit greenhouse gases after 2030. Deutsche Umwelthilfe claimed that Mercedes-Benz must comply with the Paris Climate Protection Agreement and the German Climate Protection Act regarding reduction in its vehicles’ CO2 emissions.

Twitter’s former security chief, Peiter “Mudge” Zatko, told Congress recently that there was “at least one agent” from China’s intelligence service on Twitter’s payroll and that the company knowingly allowed India to add agents to the company roster as well, reports the Associated Press. Zatko told lawmakers that the social media platform is plagued by weak cyber defenses that make it vulnerable to exploitation by “teenagers, thieves and spies” and put user privacy at risk.
