The top part of the iceberg illustrates what people see, while the portion below the waterline depicts what people don’t see. That portion is not only much deeper than the portion above the surface, it is often much wider as well.

The US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the US Drug Enforcement Agency announced Thursday that they had arrested four men accused of international narcotics and weapons trafficking offenses. Three of the men were Thai nationals, but Takeshi Ebisawa is a Japanese national who US authorities allege is a part of the Yakuza, a network of highly-organized crime families based in Japan that operate around the world.

The US Senate Thursday voted to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson to the US Supreme Court. Jackson was confirmed with bipartisan support and received a Senate vote of 53-47. GOP Senators Mitt Romney, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski crossed party lines in favor of the nomination. Two weeks ago, Jackson went through four days of hearings regarding her nomination.

Australia Thursday imposed additional financial sanctions and travel bans on 67 Russian individuals for their support of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. With the additional sanctions in place, Australia has now sanctioned nearly 600 individuals and entities related to Russia’s war in Ukraine. Australia announced the new sanctions in response to the emergence of evidence of war crimes committed by Russia in Ukrainian towns surrounding Kyiv, including Bucha.
