Top EU court allows consumer body to challenge Meta over data protection violation

The European Union’s top court Thursday ruled that the consumer protection association may bring representative action against Big Tech over infringements of laws protecting personal data. The ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) allows the German Federal Union of Consumer Organisations and Associations to seek an injunction against Meta Platforms Ireland in a German court.

India internet shutdowns in 2021 world-highest for fourth consecutive year: report

There were 182 recorded incidents of internet shutdowns in 2021 by governments in 34 countries, according to a report released Thursday by digital rights advocacy group Access Now. India remains the largest offender for the fourth year in a row, responsible for 106 incidents of internet shutdowns. Of these, 85 were imposed in Jammu and Kashmir. The report compiles internet shutdown data collected by the #KeepItOn coalition of 282 organizations from 105 countries working against internet shutdown
