A grand jury declined to return an indictment Thursday against Brittany Watts, an Ohio woman facing an abuse of corpse charge after suffering a miscarriage in her home. The Trumbull County prosecutor’s office stated that, after evaluating the case, they believed Watts did not violate the Ohio Criminal Statute of Abuse of a Corpse. The grand jury responded by returning a no bill—effectively dismissing the case.

Iran Ministry of Intelligence released Thursday its second statement announcing the arrest of 35 “suicide terrorist operatives” in connection with the January 3 attacks in Kerman. The attack included bombings, which reportedly killed at least 103 and injured more than 100 people. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has taken responsibility for the attack.

Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts sentenced Hong Kong activist Chu Kai-poon to three months in prison on Wednesday, according to local media outlet The Witness. Chu pleaded guilty on January 2 to two counts of sedition after national security police arrested him on November 27 for wearing a shirt with the slogan “Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times” at the Hong Kong International Airport.

Ecuador President Daniel Noboa told radio station Canela Radio on Wednesday that Ecuador was “in a state of war” with criminal groups that have held prison officers hostage. He also said that the country was in an internal armed conflict and fighting for peace against the criminal groups. Noboa previously declared a state of emergency on Monday for sixty days after Adolfo Macías, the leader of one of the most powerful gangs in Ecuador, escaped from prison the day before.
