The Texas Supreme Court ruled on Monday against a pregnant woman who challenged the state’s abortion restrictions. A lower court had previously granted the woman, Kate Cox, permission to receive an abortion due to pregnancy complications, despite the state’s strict abortion ban. Before Cox could safely obtain the abortion, however, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton asked the Supreme Court to block it.

UK asylum seeker dies aboard residential barge

UK police and UK Home Secretary James Cleverly announced Tuesday the death of an asylum seeker on board the Bibby Stockholm, a barge housing asylum seekers on the south coast of England. Police said they were alerted to a sudden death on the boat and the coroner is now investigating the circumstances of the fatality. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak won a pivotal vote on his Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Bill in Parliament on Tuesday as he tries to push through his plan to send asylum seekers who enter the UK illegally to Rwanda. The bill passed its second reading in the House of Commons by 313 votes to 269. UN mission to Mali announces closure

The UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) announced Monday it would close after ten years of service. Mali previously called upon the UN to withdraw from the country “without delay” in June. The UN began withdrawing the mission in July.
