Canada province recognizes inherent indigenous right of self-government in new indigenous child welfare legislation

The legislature of the Canadian province of British Columbia Friday passed the Indigenous Self-Government in Child and Family Services Amendment Act, making BC the first Canadian province to recognize an inherent right of self-government for indigenous peoples directly in provincial legislation. The Act fundamentally alters the provision of child welfare and family services to indigenous peoples in the province by transferring jurisdiction over these matters to indigenous governments.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) Friday expressed concern over Kyrgyzstan Journalist Bolot Temirov who is expelled from Kyrgyzstan. Bolot Temirov, director of Temirov Live , an independent online outlet, was born in Kyrgyzstan; however, he used a Soviet passport until he started using a Russian passport after 2001. Temirov received a Kyrgyz passport in 2008, however the same was annulled in connection to the criminal case against him.

Companies Join Call to Suspend Advertising with Twitter

National Public Radio yesterday posted an article titled “ Twitter has lost 50 of its top 100 advertisers since Elon Musk took over, report says.” The article relies on a report from the liberal site Media Matters for America founded by Democratic operative David Brock. The report lists companies that have publicly pulled their advertising and the article strongly suggests that it is due to the pledge of Elon Musk to restore free speech protections on the social media site.
