Passenger sues Southwest Airlines for failing to refund holiday flight cancellations

A Southwest Airlines passenger filed a complaint against the airline for allegedly failing to refund passengers after the airline canceled more than 15,000 flights during the holiday season. Eric Capdeville filed the proposed class action in a federal Louisiana court on Friday. Capdeville accused Southwest Airlines of breach of contract and seeks to recover damages for passengers affected by cancellations from December 24 that did not receive refunds or reimbursements.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tuesday stated that Germany refused to pay reparations and compensation for war losses that Poland incurred during World War II and that that the German government has no intentions to participate in negotiations regarding the matter. On October 3, 2022, Poland sent a diplomatic note to Germany. In the note, Poland claimed compensation for losses amounting to 6 trillion, 220 billion, 609 million Polish zlotys–which equates to almost $1.4 trillion.

Chief Minister Natasha Fyles Tuesday announced the official appointment of David Woodroffe as a Judge of the Local Court of the Northern Territory. Woodroffe was sworn in by Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Stephen Southwood, at a ceremony at the Supreme Court of Northern Territory in Australia. Woodroffe, a former Principal Legal Officer at the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA), has been acting in the position since July 2022.

The UN Security Council Tuesday welcomed new members Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique and Switzerland. This is the first time Mozambique and Switzerland have held seats in the security council. The council consists of 15 countries. Five of them–China, France, Russia, the UK and the US–are permanent members with veto powers. The other ten members are elected by the 193-nation General Assembly for two-year terms, allocated by whatever global region the countries are located in.

Ireland’s data regulator, known as the Data Protection Commission (DPC), Tuesday fined Meta Platforms Ireland Limited (Meta Ireland) $414.10 million ( €390 million) for for its Facebook and Instagram personalized advertisement delivery, which violated the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The DPC fined Meta Ireland $222.97 million (€210 million) for its Facebook breaches and $191.12 million (€180 million) for its Instagram breaches.

Kenya’s Office of the Auditor General (OAG) Tuesday published its Annual Corporate Report for 2021 through 2022. In the report, the OAG detailed how it submitted 1,617 audit reports to Parliament and relevant country assemblies for further actions.
