I once came across a comment on a blog post about attorneys sharing office space that stated malpractice insurance companies and those who write our rules of professional conduct are behind the times. Apparently, those of us who run in the ethics or malpractice insurance circles just don’t understand how attorneys practice in today’s world. Let’s just say I respectfully disagreed, and the following explains one of the many reasons why.

The US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit on Tuesday overturned a decision from the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia that held the Virginia Fairfax County School Board’s (Board) new admissions policy violated the Fourteenth Amendment’s due process clause. The plaintiffs in the case asserted that the policy disparately impacted Asian American students.

Alabama state representative takes plea deal for criminal charges, resigns

Alabama State House Representative Fred Plump Jr. agreed to resign from the Alabama House of Representatives on Tuesday as part of a plea deal for federal criminal charges. Plump was charged with wire fraud and obstruction of justice under 18 U.S.C. § 1349 and 18 U.S.C. § 1512(c)(2) , respectively. Plump, in addition to resigning from his position as a state representative, agreed to pay $200,000 in restitution to the Jefferson County Community Service Fund.
