Members of white supremacist group Patriot Front Monday were released from jail on bond after being charged with conspiracy to riot , a misdemeanor. Those arrested included men from 13 states, including Michigan, Texas, Alabama, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, South Dakota, Washington, Oregon, Illinois, Arkansas and Missouri.

There is a bizarre case out of the Michigan where Kevin VanLuven, 60, was convicted of aggravated indecent exposure. Both charges are misdemeanors. However, the court ultimately rejected the defense challenge. That itself is unfortunately not strange or rare. This is one such case. That makes it a rather novel case.

In most states, violating the CAP law is a misdemeanor. A misdemeanor is a slap on the wrist. Do we take this law from a misdemeanor charge to a felony charge? Michigan, where 35 percent of households own a firearm , doesn’t have a child access prevention law on its books. That’s much more than a slap on the wrist.

The new law upped the crime from a misdemeanor to a felony, and from a maximum of one year in jail to a maximum of five years in prison. As expected, the GOP and Fox News all chimed in on cue.
