Dating app is for lawyers, legal professionals and those who want to meet them

A dating app called Lawyr is intended to connect people in the legal community with each other or with others who want to meet them.
Lawyr was the brainchild of Matthew Rhodes, a former lawyer with Ashurst in London who created the legal website RollOnFriday, report the Canadian Lawyer, Law.com, the Daily Mail and a March press release announcing the launch of the app.
The app is available around the world, including in the United States, according to Law.com. There is no cost to sign up, but those who want additional features have to pay about $7 per month.
To find potential matches, users can apply filters such as age, distance, gender, legal position and practice area. Matches can chat within the app.
The only restriction, said co-developer James Dennison in the press release, “is that one-half of the match has to be in the legal profession, so nonlawyers can’t search for other nonlawyers.”
Those in the legal profession who can participate include lawyers, judges, law students and paralegals.
“I think it’s important to stress that it’s not just about lawyers, it’s anyone in the legal community,” Rhodes told the Canadian Lawyer. “So you can be a secretary in law firm, you can be in the print room at a law firm—but you understand how law firms work. You understand what the law is.”
Law.com noted Twitter reactions to the app. One person who had no luck was family solicitor Jake Mitchell.
“Someone recently told me about the dating app just for people in the law, called Lawyr. I can confirm it is either an empty app, or my better days have passed me by,” he tweeted.
