A law student at Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law is facing 28 counts of invasive visual recording for allegedly recording guests in bathrooms and bedrooms of homes in Texas and Colorado.

Mitchell Wasek, 28, was accused of filming house guests at his Dallas apartment and at residences owned by his parents. Wasek’s father, Donald E. Wasek, is co-founder of Buc-ee’s, a convenience store company.

Above the Law reported on the arrest, citing stories by the Daily Campus, Southern Methodist University’s newspaper, and KXAN, which broke the story. The Dallas Morning News also has coverage.

The videos allegedly showed at least 13 people using the bathroom, showering, changing clothes and having sex.

SMU Dedman School of Law released a statement saying there is “no evidence of criminal conduct related to this case on our campus,” according to the Daily Campus. The statement said in response to the incident, “campus police are taking additional security measures at law school facilities.”

House guests went to police after one guest saw the charging port with a hidden camera in a bathroom wall at a home owned by Donald Wasek on Lake Travis near Austin, Texas, according to an arrest report cited by the publications. The guest, a cybersecurity expert, was visiting Mitchell Wasek with a few other friends.

The friends took the camera with them and found the recordings. Amazon records link the camera purchases to Mitchell Wasek, according to the arrest affidavit.

Mitchell Wasek has been released on a $280,000 bond. His lawyer told the Dallas Morning News that he would respond to the charges in court filings.
