Quarterly Industry Report: Jobs & Job Seekers – Q2 2020 [Report]

ihire Q2 2020 industry report

What did Q1 of 2020 bring for the U.S. job industry? The latest edition of iHire’s Quarterly Industry Report: Jobs & Job Seekers shows a healthy job market for the months of January and February. However, we began to see numbers dwindle in late March, as the COVID-19 pandemic began sweeping the nation.

While Q3’s report may paint a clearer picture of the U.S. labor market during these unprecedented times, Q2’s data points to a few interesting trends, hinting at which industries will thrive and who’s hiring amidst the pandemic.

Notable job industry trends from our Q2 2020 report include:

  • Nursing Keeps Top Status: iHireNursing kept its spot as the most popular iHire talent community, with 253,391 active jobs as of April 2, 2020. iHireTechnology and iHireConstruction followed with 161,405 and 68,841, respectively. We expect to see iHireNursing hold strong in the coming weeks, given the growing need for healthcare workers to combat COVID-19.

  • Logistics to the Rescue: iHireLogistics experienced a surge in hiring, jumping from 62,117 jobs added in February 2020 to 101,335 jobs added in March 2020. This rise falls in line with the increased demand placed on supply chains during the pandemic.

  • Active Job Seekers Set to Rise: The percentage of candidates actively seeking a job remained fairly stagnant from month-to-month across the last two quarters. However, we predict this number will grow due to the sheer volume of April unemployment claims in the U.S. labor market.
