Brooklyn subway mass shooting victim sues gun manufacturer

A woman injured in April’s Brooklyn subway mass shooting Tuesday filed a lawsuit against Glock Inc. (Glock), a gun manufacturer.

On April 12 2022, a gunman opened fire on a Brooklyn subway. The shooter “put on a mask, threw two smoke grenades, and opened fire with a Glock 17 9mm[.]” The mass shooting resulted in twenty-nine people being injured, “ten of them from direct gunfire, including Plaintiff; the remaining injuries were from smoke inhalation.”

The complaint alleges that Glock “through their marketing practices in the manufacture, distribution, and sale of guns, including the subject Glock firearm, have contributed to creating and maintaining a public nuisance in the State of New York and have endangered the public health and safety[.]” The complaint also alleges that Glock is well-informed and aware regarding the reality of mass shootings, which have, unfortunately, “become a frightening yet predictable part of modern life.”

This lawsuit commences after a NY judge last week upheld a law that allows gun violence victims to sue gun manufacturers.
