Another Biglaw Firm Raises Associate Salaries To Take Their Place In The Top Tier Of The Industry
The pressure mounts for the top of Biglaw to match the latest round of salary increases.
The Biglaw raises sweeping through the industry continue! The new $225,000 scale is taking hold at the most elite firms, and the pressure is on to see which firms are able to match.
Fresh off of the awkward call for charitable donations, Allen & Overy raised associate salaries and announced bonuses. The international mega firm has affirmed its commitment to paying its attorneys at the top of the market with a set of compensation hikes that matches the scale set by Milbank/Cravath.
The new salary grid at A&O is as follows:
Class Year | 2024 Annual Salary |
Class of 2023 | $225,000 |
Class of 2022 | $235,000 |
Class of 2021 | $260,000 |
Class of 2020 | $310,000 |
Class of 2019 | $365,000 |
Class of 2018 | $390,000 |
Class of 2017 | $420,000 |
Class of 2016 | $435,000 |
The bonus scale at the firm is as follows:
Year-End Bonus | |
Class of 2023 | $15,000 (prorated) |
Class of 2022 | $20,000 |
Class of 2021 | $30,000 |
Class of 2020 | $57,500 |
Class of 2019 | $75,000 |
Class of 2018 | $90,000 |
Class of 2017 | $105,000 |
Class of 2016 | $115,000 |
This also matches the scale at soon-to-be merger partner Shearman & Sterling, which makes sense.
