The UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced Thursday it had arrested five Bulgarian nationals on suspicion of spying for Russia.

In a statement, the CPS said the five will be charged with “conspiring to collect information intended to be directly or indirectly useful to an enemy for a purpose prejudicial to the safety and interest of the state between 30 August 2020 and 8 February 2023.” The Head of the CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division Nick Price said in a separate statement:

The CPS has authorised charges against five people for conspiring to collect information intended to be useful to an enemy of the state. We remind all concerned that criminal proceedings against these defendants are active and that they have the right to a fair trial.

Those arrested include Orlin Roussev, Bizer Dzhambazov, Katrin Ivanova, Ivan Stoyanov and Vanya Gaberova. Roussev, Dzhambazov and Ivanova were previously charged in February with possession of false identity documents with improper intention.

All five will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 26.
