Students Should DEFINITELY Turn Down Better Schools To Attend ASSLaw... Be Our Guest!

There are good reasons to turn down top law schools... this is a remarkably bad one.

Now that Crystal Clanton has completed her journey from being too racist for Turning Point USA’s taste to clerking at the United States Supreme Court, has George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia School of Law — ASSLaw to its friends! — solidified itself as a bona fide top law school?

No, of course not. Clanton’s success is a function of insurrection fan Ginni Thomas taking the young conservative under her hard-right wing, allowing Clarence Thomas to became an avuncular figure in her life. And now she’s going to work for him.

Pinning this on ASSLaw is an insane proposition. So obviously it has a proponent:

Honestly… great! FedSoc’s network of affirmative action for mediocre white people will find a way to hook up its relative best with clerkships no matter where they attend. The only thing accomplished by all this ASSLaw fluffing is a generation of Columbia or Duke grads who miss out on lucrative Biglaw careers because they preferred the freedom to use the n-word over a chicken sandwich chasing a feeder judge clerkship they were never going to get.

Nobody enters law school thinking they’re going to be the median student, but the fact of the matter is that a whole lot of them will be bunch up around that level. It’s how the word median works!

That’s why the smart law school decision — all else equal — is to maximize opportunities through the lens that you might end up in the middle of the class. Be pleasantly surprised when you end up crushing it, but try to place yourself somewhere that places B students in the best position to build a career.

Also… wait, Frank said this? We’re only a month removed from when he was busy posting about how Black law grads who don’t go to top law schools must have terrible LSAT scores because no one who could attend Harvard would choose to attend Howard Maryland [UPDATE: I misread the original Troutman Pepper story that it was Howard and not Maryland — the underlying complaint deals at length with allegations about the associate’s attendance of a Howard Law School recruiting event which I conflated with her being an alum]. Now he’s encouraging budding January 6 Scouts to buck Yale for ASSLaw based on it being “well networked within the community… lower cost with less hassle and abuse.”

Weird how he didn’t see how those same concerns could matter to a Black law student choosing to attend a premier HBCU law school [UPDATE: Obviously this does not apply to Maryland as strongly it would to Howard, though someone interested in the Maryland market could definitely have higher interest in a state school]. But then again, Black law students can’t possibly face any challenges as emotionally traumatizing as “not being invited to law school house parties,” so maybe he’s got a point.

But conservatives should definitely go to ASSLaw over other schools. Absolutely launch your professional career in a client-facing service industry on countervirtue signaling.

10/10 decision. No notes.
