Judge Reed O’Connor of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas temporarily enjoined the United States Navy’s mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy on Monday. In August 2021, the Department of Defense (DOD) mandated COVID-19 vaccinations for all service members. The Navy issued its own mandate requiring all active-duty service members to be fully vaccinated before November 28, 2021.

A Swedish woman has been charged with war crimes for bringing her young son to Syria, where he was enlisted as a child soldier, and ultimately killed in the country’s long-simmering conflict, prosecutors announced Tuesday. The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Tuesday commended Pakistan for successfully completing its national campaign to issue about 1.4 million registered Afghan refugees with smart identity cards after verifying and updating their data. UNHCR spokesperson Babar Baloch praised Pakistan at a virtual press briefing in the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

The High Court of Telangana Monday issued notice against the state government in a petition by Hyderabad-based social activist SQ Masood regarding the deployment of facial recognition technology (FRT) in the state of Telangana. A federal jury in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California found Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos, guilty of 4 of 11 counts of various conspiracy and fraud charges on Monday. The jury deliberated for seven days over whether Holmes had committed fraud and conspiracy from promoting an analyzer that could run “ accurate, fast, reliable, and cheap blood tests and test results” from a prick of the finger.

The Government of Canada announced Tuesday a $40 billion agreement-in-principle to reform the on-reserve child welfare system and compensate its First Nations child members. The agreement was made between Canada, the Assembly of First Nations, the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society and other groups. It provides a global resolution for First Nations children who were harmed by discriminatory underfunding.
