NY federal judge denies AT&T summary judgement in SEC leak lawsuit

A New York federal judge Thursday denied summary judgement in a case filed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against AT&T, Inc. (AT&T) and company executives Christopher C. Womack, Kent D. Evans and Michael J. Black. Judge Paul A. Engelmeyer denied both parties’ motions for summary judgment and specifically found “overwhelming evidence, documentary and testimonial, on which a jury could find that” that the SEC’s allegations are true.

The South Carolina Senate Thursday passed H.5399, a bill tightening abortion restrictions. South Carolina’s existing abortion law, the Fetal Heartbeat Protection From Abortion Act , is currently pending in front of the state’s Supreme Court. Legislators debated for two days between maintaining exceptions for rape, incest and fetal abnormality or passing a complete abortion ban.

The Supreme Court of India (SCI) Friday granted bail to journalist Siddique Kappan. Kappan has been detained for more than 700 days under the controversial Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) of 1 967. The SCI was unconvinced by the State’s arguments that documents allegedly seized from Kappan are provocative in nature. Siddique was arrested on October 5, 2020, by Uttar Pradesh police while traveling to Hathras to report on the rape and murder of a Dalit girl.
