Ohio doctor found not guilty of murdering patients after overprescribing fentanyl

An Ohio doctor was found Wednesday not guilty on 14 counts of murder. The doctor was accused of “hastening the deaths of 14 critically ill patients” by overprescribing fentanyl. The jury had to answer the question of whether William Husel’s actions violated Ohio law when he allegedly prescribed 10 times the amount of fentanyl that is used in nonsurgical settings. .

US appeals court sends fossil fuel cases back to state court

The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Tuesday sent lawsuits by six California cities and counties accusing ExxonMobil, Chevron Corp and other energy giants of fueling climate change back to state court after the US Supreme Court required the court reexamine the cases. After the suits were filed in their respective state courts, the defendant energy companies in each case filed a notice of removal in an attempt to move the case to federal court.

Hong Kong pro-democracy activist and DJ, Tam Tak-chi, was found guilty Wednesday of seditious speech and sentenced to jail for 40 months in Hong Kong’s District Court. Tam Tak-chi is the first person since Hong Kong’s 1997 handover to stand full trial for sedition in Hong Kong. Tam was arrested in July 2020 shortly after China had imposed a sweeping national security law on the city and has been in detention ever since, after being denied bail.
