The father of an Uvalde, Texas, school shooting victim and a school employee Friday took legal steps against Daniel Defense, an American arms manufacturer whose AR-15 style rifle was used in the Robb Elementary School shooting that left 19 students and two teachers dead.

The lawyers for Alfred Garza, father of Robb Elementary student Amerie Jo Garza, sent a letter to Daniel Defense to investigate a claim against the gun manufacturer for the death of Amerie Jo. Additionally, they requested Daniel Defense “to preserve all potentially relevant information in both unaltered form and by copying and preserving such information.” This includes any marketing geared towards teens and children. Garza’s lawyers stated that this letter was sent as an alternative to filing a lawsuit to gain the information.

Emilia Marin, a speech pathologist at Robb Elementary, Thursday filed a request for obtaining Daniel Defense’s financial and marketing records. Marin also seeks to question company officials. In addition to requesting information about the sale of the Daniel Defense rifle used in the school shooting, the lawsuit also requests information related to the 2017 Vegas shooting where the company’s guns were also used. Daniel Defense said in a statement on its website that it was going to cooperate with authorities in their investigations.

Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Hal Harrell Wednesday announced that students and staff will not return to the school campus.

Late last month, the US House of Representatives’ Committee on Oversight and Reform asked five gunmakers to provide information on the manufacturing, marketing and sales of assault weapons used in mass shootings.
