US Judge orders tanker company to pay almost $44.6M for deadly US Navy destroyer collision

A US District Judge Wednesday ordered Energetic Tank, Inc. to pay the US federal government almost $44.6 million for its role in a 2017 collision between an Energetic Tank tanker and a US Navy destroyer in which “[t]en Navy sailors were killed and dozens more were injured.” The $44.6 million payment is due to the court’s apportionment that Energetic Tank is 20% responsible for the collision and the US government is 80% responsible.
