Cuba legalises same-sex marriage in nationwide referendum

Cuba Monday voted to legalize same-sex marriage following a historic national referendum. Government officials announced that more than 3.9 million voters, or 66.9 percent, voted in favour of a new Family Code, and 1.95 million voters, 33 percent, opposed the ratification. The new code legalizes same-sex marriage and will allow same-sex couples to adopt.

Alleged Séléka militia group leader pleads not guilty to ICC war crimes charges

The International Criminal Court Monday (ICC) opened a trial against Mahamat Said Abdel Kani, alleged leader of the Séléka rebel group, for crimes humanity and war crimes in violation of the Rome Statute. Said allegedly committed these crimes in Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR) in 2013. Said pleaded not guilty to all charges. The ICC issued a warrant of arrest against Said on January 7, 2019.
