Barber Ranen Adopts New Name After Firm Was Dragged Through The Mud Thanks To Offensive Email Scandal

That'll do the trick... hopefully.

lawyer facepalmAbout a month after it first came into existence, Barber Ranen is no more.

Earlier this week, John Barber and Jeffrey Ranen — former Lewis Brisbois partners who left the firm while leading more than 100 lawyers away to join their new firm, Barber Ranen — resigned in disgrace after a trove of their racist, sexist, homophobic, and antisemitic emails was leaked to the press.

Now, the firm has a brand new name, and is hoping to leave all of the drama in the past.

According to the American Lawyer, the firm will now be known as Daugherty Lordan, with San Francisco managing partner Joe Lordan and founding partner Melissa Daugherty leading the firm’s masthead. Here are the details, courtesy of Am Law:

“We are pleased to announce that our new firm name is Daugherty Lordan LLP. Name Partners Melissa Daugherty and Joe Lordan are long time colleagues who have agreed to represent our firm into the future,” the spokesperson said. The spokesperson added that Daugherty Lordan is composed of 60% female attorneys.

While all lawyers who moved from Lewis Brisbois to Barber Ranen are still at the new firm, Am Law notes that about a dozen are in talks with the firm they left not long ago, in the hopes of returning to their former jobs.

Best of luck to everyone at Daugherty Lordan as they attempt to get out from under the public relations nightmare that was created by Barber and Ranen and move ahead with their new practice.
