When litigation over the opioid crisis was initiated, pharmacies like Walmart, CVS and Walgreens alleged that their role in the opioid crisis was limited to filling legal prescriptions for a legal drug.

Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness Tuesday enacted a state of emergency to combat rising violence in two separate orders. The first order targets the densely-populated capital district parishes of Clarendon and St. Catherine and portions of Kingston and St. Andrews. The second order covers the parishes of St. James, Westmoreland and Hanover. The two areas house over half of Jamaica’s 2.97 million citizens.

Several civil rights groups Monday filed a class action lawsuit against the County and City of Los Angeles in addition to Los Angeles law enforcement. The lawsuit challenges Los Angeles’s policy of jailing arrestees who are unable to make bail as set by the county’s uniform “bail schedules.” Since the arrestees are unable to make bail, they remain in jail to await their initial court appearance.
