Afghanistan dispatches: ‘the only source responsible for this explosion, I believe, remains ISIS’

JURIST EXCLUSIVE – Law students in Afghanistan are filing reports with JURIST on the situation there after the fall of Kabul to the Taliban. Here, a law student in currently Kabul offers his latest observations and perspective less than two hours after a major bombing at the Kabul airport Thursday that killed dozens and wounded may more. For privacy and security reasons we are withholding his name and institutional affiliation. The text has been only lightly edited to respect the author’s voice.

With Taliban taking over whole the country, the only source responsible for this explosion, I believe, remains ISIS. At one time we Afghans were hoping that at least there would be no explosions with Taliban having the country under their power and control, but now an explosion takes place and causes tens of innocent people’s death.

This serves as a warning sign that Afghanistan will continue to be raided and attacked even if one of the terrorist groups (Taliban) rules and commands the country.

Taliban, a disorganized and quite amateur group, will have many challenges ruling Afghanistan. Pakistan, Iran and some other countries will interfere in Afghanistan’s affairs. Observing this situation, ISIS or any other terrorist groups will feel free to raid the country hoping to conquer some of its cities. Worse than that, there is also a possibility that Afghanistan goes into a domestic war and that this war keeps on for months or even years. This all could be precluded if Taliban would agree to share political power and establish a powerful government reflecting the whole nation’s will. A comprehensive government could concentrate all its time and budget repelling attacks and the interference of any groups or countries abusing lack of government and system in Afghanistan.

Whoever is targeted now, innocent people will largely be affected.
