Federal appeals court rejects challenge to Michigan term limits

The US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Wednesday rejected a challenge to a Michigan law restricting term limits in the legislature. Michigan voters added term limits for state legislators and state executives to their state constitution in 1992. The term limit in the Michigan House of Representatives is six years, while the term limit in the Michigan Senate is eight years.

UK establishes public inquiry to investigate chemical weapons death

The UK Home Office Thursday announced that it would conduct a public inquiry on Dawn Sturgess’ 2018 death following her exposure to the military-grade nerve agent Novichok, which inhibits essential bodily functions. Pakistan amends criminal laws on sexual assault while excluding chemical castration as a punishment

The Pakistan Parliament passed the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2021 Thursday which amends the Pakistan Penal Code, 1860 and the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. While the bill initially contained a provision for chemical castration, it was reportedly dropped by way of a last-minute amendment in Parliament. The act, among 33 others passed Thursday, is designed to achieve “efficacious justice to victims of rape” by providing strict punishments to offenders.
