European Commission sets new 2040 climate target of emissions reduction

The European Commission proposed on Tuesday to amend the EU Climate Law , setting a binding target of a 90 percent reduction in net greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, compared to 1990 levels. The proposal would replace Articles 4(3) and 4(5), creating a midpoint to help track progress and guide compliance. The Commission said the proposal offers businesses and governments greater predictability in investment and planning.
