Senate Looks to Defense Bill for Key Improvements to Cybersecurity

The Senate is eyeing the annual defense bill as a vehicle to attach critical provisions to improve the nation’s cybersecurity, reports The Hill. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee ranking member Rob Portman, along with several other Senate committee chairs, introduced an amendment to the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) earlier this month that would give critical infrastructure groups 72 hours to report cyber incidents.

European Commission proposes stricter waste exporting rules

The European Commission Wednesday proposed a new regulation to curb the export of waste to third-party countries. In a statement , Executive Vice-President for European Green Deal Frans Timmermans said, “our new rules to govern waste shipments will boost the circular economy and ensure that waste exports do not harm the environment or human health elsewhere.” The regulation covers all waste, not just those forms of waste that are traditionally understood as hazardous.

Mexico high court declares extension of court president term unconstitutional

The highest court in Mexico Tuesday unanimously declared a reform decree that extended the court’s President and Federal Judicial Council Member terms by two years unconstitutional. The Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación (SCJN) held that the term extension violated Articles 97 and 100 of the Mexican Constitution.
