The Kumamoto District Court in Japan has ordered compensation to two people who were forcibly sterilized 40 years ago due to disability under the then-existing Eugenic Protection Law. The Kumamoto court Monday found the eugenics legislation to be unconstitutional and awarded ¥22 million ($170,000) in damages. Of the two, one was forced to undergo sterilization at the age of 10 years old.

A Kenyan court Thursday convicted Venezuelan diplomat Dwight Sagaray on murder charges for a killing that occurred 11 years ago. The Copyright Royalty Board yesterday published in the Federal Register the proposed rates for the public performance of musical compositions by noncommercial broadcasters for the period 2023 through 2027. The rates reflect settlements between ASCAP, BMI, SESAC and GMR with various organizations representing noncommercial broadcasters. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting agreed to one set of rates paid to cover NPR and PBS affiliates.
