The UN’s migration agency, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Wednesday raised concerns over the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen’s Marib governorate, where the armed conflict is having a devasting impact on displaced people, migrants, and the communities sheltering them. According to IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix, the number of people forced to evacuate their homes in Marib has risen to more than 45,000 people since September.

The focus of this write-up is a case note on a very recent decision of the Nigerian Court of Appeal that declined to enforce an exclusive English choice of court agreement. [1] In this case the 1 st claimant/respondent was an insured party while the defendant/appellant was the insurer of the claimant/respondent. The insurance agreement between the 1 st claimant/respondent and defendant/appellant provided for both an exclusive choice of court and choice of law agreement in favour of England.

The Tenth Circuit US Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday that Albuquerque’s panhandling ordinance violates First Amendment rights because the ordinance is not sufficiently narrow. Albuquerque’s panhandling ordinance prohibits pedestrians from standing or assembling on streets, medians, highway exit and entrance ramps, and major intersections. Pedestrians are also barred from talking to or interacting with drivers and occupants of vehicles.

Australia’s Minister of Defence, Peter Dutton, was awarded AU $35,000 Wednesday for being defamed in a tweet that called him a “rape apologist.” The tweet which sparked the defamation lawsuit was published by refugee advocate Shane Bazzi in February. It read, “Peter Dutton is a rape apologist,” with a link to an article about Dutton using his photo as the header image.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)Friday announced that it has fined the State Bank of India (SBI) ?1 crore for holding “shares in borrower companies, as pledgee, of an amount exceeding 30 percent of the paid-up share capital of those companies.” Section 19 of the Banking Regulation Act of 1949 prevents a banking company from holding more than 30 percent of the paid-up share capital in any company, whether as a mortgagee, pledgee, or absolute owner.

Hezbollah is a militant extremist group with religious ideology. The organizations are now listed as terrorist organizations under Division 102 of the Australian Criminal Code Act of 1995.
