Proud Boys members plead not guilty to seditious conspiracy for alleged roles in Capitol attack

Former Proud Boys Chairman Enrique Tarrio and two other members have pleaded not guilty to seditious conspiracy in relation to their alleged roles in storming the US Capitol on January 6 last year.

Five Proud Boys members were indicted by a grand jury on Monday for “seditious conspiracy and other charges for their actions before and during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.”

The three Proud Boys members pleaded not guilty during a virtual court hearing in Washington on Thursday, and the two others indicted on Monday were not present and are expected to be arraigned on a future date. Their trial is set to begin on August 8.

On the same day that the Proud Boys members pleaded not guilty, the US House Select Committee held its first public hearing to release the findings from its Capitol riot investigation.

Since the January 6 insurrection, “more than 800 individuals have been arrested in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including over 250 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.” The investigation is still ongoing.
