No one else had the guts to take her case. I believed we could take down a sitting U.S. president who was the biggest threat to our democracy in modern times.

I own the conduct for which I was convicted. I disappointed scores of people and failed in a cataclysmic way.

I have destroyed my career, my relationships and my reputation and have done collateral damage to my family and my life. There is serious doubt as to how or if I will ever recover any semblance of a normal life.

Avenatti was sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of defrauding his former client through aggravated identity theft and wire fraud. He is currently serving a 2 1/2-year sentence for trying to extort millions of dollars from Nike. Avenatti — who won the title of Above the Law’s 2018 Lawyer of the Year — faces a combined five years in prison (with 18 months of the Daniels sentence to run concurrently with the Nike sentence). On top of that, he must pay Daniels $148,750 in restitution and forfeit about $297,000 that he stole from her.
