The United States uses sanctions to expand its jurisdiction abroad in violation of fundamental rights, United Nations Special Rapporteur Alena Douhan said on Thursday. In a statement published by the United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner (OHC), Douhan said the US imposes sanctions upon entities in the absence of universal jurisdiction.

Seriously, I mostly stopped practic ing law because of the inane, interminable meetings. Now, that’s a problem in most offices – but, law firm meetings seem to me to be particularly meandering and aimless. Now, the pandemic change d how and where people met, in fundamental ways. But, the meetings still sucked. Of course, that doesn’t mean that law firms meetings have to remain so bogus.

Amnesty International Friday called for Tunisia to put an immediate end to racist and xenophobic attacks targeting Black African migrants. The violence began in early February and was exacerbated by a racially-charged speech by President Kais Saied at a National Security Council meeting on February 21. Amnesty International interviewed 20 migrants who were victims of racist mob attacks.

A Texas man Friday sued three women who allegedly aided his ex-wife by providing her with “illegally obtained abortion pills” without his knowledge. Marcus Silva’s petition states that under Texas’ murder and wrongful-death statutes, a self-managed abortion is the crime of murder, and the three women can be sued for wrongful death.

The Russian Foreign Ministry Thursday issued sanctions against 144 citizens of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Russia accused the individuals of hostile acts against the Russian state. The alleged acts include lobbying for sanctions, interference with Russia’s internal affairs and inciting “Russophobic” sentiments. The names of the individuals are not yet available.
