Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs Penny Wong Monday announced that Australia is imposing sanctions against Iran over the country’s human rights violations amid ongoing protests against the death of Mahsa Amini. The sanctions will also target Iran’s supply of drones to Russia amid the invasion of Ukraine. Wong said that Australia was applying “targeted financial sanctions and travel bans” on 27 individuals and 15 entities with ties to the Iranian government.

French President Emmanuel Macron Monday survived a vote of no confidence by a slim margin of nine votes. The vote against Macron’s cabinet was sparked by the President’s decision to bypass Parliament last week, “forcing through” a pension reform to raise the age of retirement from 62 to 64. On March 12, the bill was passed through the Senate by a majority of 195 to 112.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced Sunday that he suspended a ceasefire with the Clan del Golfo, Colombia’s largest drug trafficking cartel. Petro’s decision was triggered by allegations of rifle attacks by the organization against police forces.
