The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Monday released a report containing evidence of mass graves in the Libyan city of Tarhuna. The report estimates there could be as many as 100 undiscovered mass graves in the city. It claims that the al-Kaniyat militia, in power in Tarhuna from 2016 to 2020, is responsible for mass killings. The militia is alleged to have used brutal torture methods on residents including women, children, the infirm, and the disabled.

British citizen Aiden Aslin, who was sentenced to death last month for “forcible seizure of power and mercenary activities” in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Monday appealed his conviction, according to Russian news agencies TASS, which is state-owned, and Interfax. Aslin was captured while fighting in Ukraine’s Mariupol and sentenced to death along with Shaun Pinner, another British citizen, and Moroccan Brahim Saadoun.

A Turkish Court Monday decided that it would not extradite Samir Nasri Salem Handal to Haiti to stand trial for his alleged involvement in the assassination of President Jovenel Moise. Handal was apprehended attempting to leave Turkey in November and was detained by Turkish authorities pending an investigation. He is alleged to have provided shelter to the main conspirator of the assassination.
