Indiana House approves legislation to eliminate handgun licensing

The Indiana House of Representatives approved legislation Monday that would eliminate handgun licensing in the state. Current Indiana law requires individuals to apply for a handgun license. Individuals must fill out an application, submit their fingerprints and complete local law enforcement agency processing. In 2020 , 121,863 applicants were approved.

Appeals court rules march for life students cannot bring harassment claims against comedian

The US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled Tuesday that Covington Catholic high school students cannot bring harassment claims against comedian Kathy Griffin. On January 18, 2019, a group of Covington Catholic high school students participated in the annual March for Life rally in Washington, DC. Following the rally, the students were involved in an incident outside the Lincoln Memorial involving Native American Nathan Phillips.

An independent investigation released on Monday found that Aurora, Colorado, police officers had no legal basis to stop, frisk, and use a chokehold on Elijah McClain. McClain, a 23-year-old Black man, died after an August 2019 encounter with police and paramedics during which he was restrained and sedated. The report was commissioned by the City Council of Aurora and written by a panel of three experts in policing, constitutional law, and emergency medicine.

Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulani, also known as Bobi Wine, on Monday withdrew an election petition challenging the re-election of Yoweri Museveni. Kyagulani cited frustrations with the Supreme Court as the reason for his withdrawal, claiming that the Supreme Court justices hearing the case were biased. In January’s presidential election, Museveni won his sixth term after garnering 59 percent of the votes against Wine’s 35 percent.
