As Russia shutters respected NGOs, European Court of Human Rights intervenes

Exercising a form of injunction reserved for exceptionally serious cases, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR, Court) has instructed Russia to halt efforts to shutter Memorial International and its subsidiary organization, the Court announced Wednesday. The move followed two high-profile decisions by Russian courts this week to dissolve respected non-governmental organizations that were created to shed light on the victims of historical and modern political repression in the country.

The civilians they allegedly targeted lived in the southeastern town of Nevesinje.

German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann announced Tuesday that the German legislature must take action to protect disabled patients and patients with pre-existing conditions in the event of triage caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Buschmann’s proclamation comes after an identical ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court. The Federal Constitutional Court consists of sixteen justices divided into two Senates.
