EU lawmakers reach deal to protect children from online sexual abuse

Negotiators from the European Council and Parliament have reached a provisional agreement to temporarily allow electronic communications services such as Facebook and Microsoft to scan for and remove online sexual abuse, according to a press release Thursday. This agreement, which is set to further cover anti-grooming, will be implemented until permanent legislation is announced by the European Commission to replace it.

The US Supreme Court heard oral arguments Wednesday for Mahanoy Area School District v. B.L. and PennEast Pipeline Co. v. New Jersey. In PennEast Pipeline Co. v. New Jersey , the Supreme Court will determine whether PennEast Pipeline Co. can run a pipeline through New Jersey’s state-controlled land. PennEast argues that it is permissible to take state-controlled land because the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission permitted the project in 2018.
