Human rights groups call for end to India sedition law

Human Rights Watch (HRW) Tuesday published a call for India to end its controversial sedition law. The sedition law is a statute from the colonial era when India was controlled by the United Kingdom. According to HRW, the law “ remains a powerful tool used by the authorities to criminalise dissent and arrest peaceful critics of the government.” More recently, HRW claims Prime Minister Narendra Modi has used the law to punish activists and protesters.

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) Monday announced that rideshare app Uber will pay more than $2 million and waive wait time fees for disabled passengers to settle allegations that the company violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). DOJ initiated a lawsuit in November 2021 over allegations that Uber charged disabled passengers wait time fees if they did not reach the car within 2 minutes of their driver’s arrival.
