The US District Court for the Northern District of Indiana Monday denied a motion for preliminary injunction against Indiana University’s mandate that all students get the COVID-19 vaccine before returning to campus in the fall. The injunction request was filed by eight students from Indiana University representing a variety of different backgrounds and age groups.

The Supreme Court of India Friday ordered the state of Uttar Pradesh to reconsider its planned Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage amid fears of a third COVID-19 outbreak in the country. The Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) had initially ordered its officers to direct the “Kanwar Sanghs,” which are essentially religious congregations, to not proceed with the pilgrimage in light of the pandemic.

People sent to long-term confinement are disproportionately young, male, Black and experience mental health issues, according to an examination of administrative records from the Florida Department of Corrections.

Every Saturday morning, private buses drop off groups of people at prisons across New York State. Women and children, mostly, leave the city in the dead hours of night and travel on these buses for six hours or longer only to wait sometimes for three or more hours to get inside the facility to see their loved ones. The waiting area usually consists of a dreary small room or trailer encircled with uncomfortable plastic chairs where a few officers approve who will enter the facility.
