Turley to Give Keynote Address at the California Lawyers Conference on Constitution Day

This morning, I have the honor of addressing the 2022 California Lawyers Conference in San Diego. The keynote address will cover “Emerging Cases and Controversies Before the Roberts Supreme Court.” It is a particular privilege to address the conference on Constitution Day. We are experiencing a crisis of faith in our Constitution, including attacks on the Court and individual justices.  There has also been a rise of opposition to “constitutionalism” as well as attacks on the Constitution as “trash.

The late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg once said “We have the oldest written constitution still in force in the world, and it starts out with three words, ‘We, the people.'” It was a simple and powerful statement. It is incumbent on each of us to defend a constitution that not only defines us as a people but has served us well through hundreds of years of political, social, and economic upheaval.

My address to the conference will focus on the Supreme Court and the cases and controversies that it has faced in the last year. I will be discussing the blockbuster cases from the last term, including but not limited to:

Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization (Abortion)

New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen (Gun rights)

Kennedy v. Bremerton School District (Free exercise and free speech)

Carson v. Makin (Establishment of religion)

West Virginia v. Environmental Protection Agency (Climate change/Separation of Powers)

I will also discuss some of the upcoming cases including:

303 Creative v. ElenisA web designer challenging Colorado’s public accommodations law after declining to provide services for the marriages of same-sex couples.

Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard College/Students for Fair Admissions v. University of North Carolina: Challenges to the use of race as a criterion in college admissions.

Moore v. HarperA challenge to the right of state courts to strike down or change legislation governing congressional and presidential elections under the “independent state legislature doctrine.”

Andy Warhol Foundation v. GoldsmithAn appeal concerning what constitutes a “transformative” work under the fair use doctrine when it contains a dissimilar meaning or message from an original source like a photo of Prince.

Sackett v. Environmental Protection Agency: A challenge to the test for what is considered “water of the United States.”

Haaland v. BrackeenA constitutional challenge to the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978 in the use of race for placement preferences for children.

  1. Omg…..you should ask them Where their groceries water and electricity come from! Because they are about to be lemon blind sighted. But you go speak….you are doing God’s work. Let them know no one else is signing up for the army…..try to recruit them for the dod. Because the normal people who usually sign up their kids……we are maga and withholding recruits……taking our country back. Day by day.

  2. We the People of the United States, …and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.

Mommy, where does “our Posterity” come from?

  3. Professor Turley will address the State Congress of the California Communist Party.

    To what end?

The State Congress of the California Communist Party and the National Congress of the American Communist Party deny and nullify the rights, freedoms, privileges and immunities of Americans by their very existence.

Rights, freedoms, privileges and immunities are natural and God-given; they are not bestowed by government and they existed before government was established.

All conceivable, enumerated and unenumerated, natural and God-given rights belong to Americans per the 9th Amendment, and “…[t]he powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the [people] respectively, or to the [States].”

Americans enjoy global and pervasive immunities from the principles of the communist Manifesto and from “the dictatorship of the proletariat.”

This antithetical and anti-constitutional organization is a direct and mortal enemy of the U.S. Constitution, and of constitutional and patriotic Californians and Americans.

The entire communist welfare state, imposed through the illicit and brutal denial of rights, freedoms, privileges and immunities to Americans, is antithetical, unconstitutional and ferociously inimical to America.

  4. San Diego is a fine place any time of year. My mother used to take me to the natural history museum in Balboa Park.

I saw this posting before daybreak and wondered how Prof. Turley was doing with jet lag. Now that it’s afternoon, I don’t understand how he had the energy to make another posting and several tweets today.

  5. Thank you for speaking in California, the State where Citizens who pay taxes are literally the last people our Government cares about.
