Former Three Percenters militia member Guy Reffitt was Monday sentenced to 87 months in prison for leading a mob of rioters towards the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 while carrying a handgun. The sentence is less than half of the 15-year prison term that the US Department of Justice (DOJ) asked for. Reffitt’s prison sentence is still the longest one handed down to any January 6 Capitol riot defendant.

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled Monday that two vessels owned by non-profit Sea Watch may have been wrongly detained by the Italian government. Sea Watch rescues migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea in vessels that are not seaworthy. Sicilian port authorities detained Sea Watch’s cargo ships in 2020 after the boats rescued and brought migrants to the ports of Palermo and Empedocle.

Between 2007 and 2020 there were at least 102 lawsuits that alleged misconduct by officers in the Yonkers, N.Y. Police Department that resulted in either a settlement or a jury verdict, costing the city of Yonkers more than $5.5 million, reports NPR. The vast majority of the cases, 95, were settled, with the city and officers denying any liability, and the average payout was $55,056, with some, even in cases of alleged assault by officers, amounting to as little as $1,500.
