UN appoints new high commissioner for human rights

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed Austrian diplomat Volker T ürk to be the next High Commissioner for Human Rights. Following approval by the UN General Assembly, Türk will replace Chilean national Michelle Bachelet. Bachelet decided not to seek a second term after she served as the High Commissioner for Human Rights from 1 September, 2018, until 31 August, 2022.
