A federal jury in Virginia Thursday convicted former British citizen El Shafee Elsheikh for his role in the 2014 Islamic State hostage-taking plot that led to the beheading of four American journalists and aid workers. Elsheikh allegedly tortured and murdered more than two dozen hostages, including journalist James Foley, an American journalist who was executed in 2014.

The Central Criminal Court of England and Wales Wednesday sentenced Ali Harbi Ali, an ISIS follower, to life imprisonment for engaging in terrorist activities and murdering lawmaker David Amess. Ali was sentenced for two crimes by the court. He was sentenced for engaging in preparation of terrorist acts between May 1, 2019 and September 28, 2021. He was also sentenced for the murder of Parliament member David Amess by stabbing him at least 20 times by knife.

The Higher Regional Court in Munich Wednesday sentenced a Russian researcher working at the Bavarian University of Augsburg, convicting him of espionage and sharing classified information with Moscow. The court gave the man, referred to as Ilnur N., a one-year suspended sentence. Ilnur N. was a research assistant for a scientific and technical professor at the university who worked on the Ariane space rocket program.

The unsealed indictment charges the three individuals with actions undertaken to further Russia’s propaganda in the US over Russian efforts in Ukraine.
