African recording artist, Zakes Bantwini, is being sued by his record label, Paradise Africa, for breach of contract. Bantwini released his album “Ghetto King” in 2021 to wide international success. The artist faces an R2.4 million lawsuit brought on by Paradise Africa,” accusing Bantwini of signing another deal with Universal Music.” Zakes made Paradise Africa his authorized international distributor in 2021 and is valid for a decade. Now, Paradise Africa claims that Zakes Bantwini was already under contract with Universal Music Group since 2016 and did not have the legal authority to enter another contract.

“According to legal papers filed at the Johannesburg High Court, Mayonie Productions (Zakes Bantwini’s company) sealed a deal with Paradise Africa to distribute the musician’s album in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe.”

Paradise Africa has accused the 42-year-old of “double-dipping” and is demanding R2.4 million from him as a result of loss of income. “The defendant did not hold the right, power, and authority to enter in the [new] agreement,” read a part of the legal papers.
