International Manufacturing Concepts, Melomega music, and Sound Gems sued Justin Bieber and Dan + Shay over a copyright infringement. The suit alleges that Bieber, country duo Dan Smyers, and Shay Mooney “stole the core portion” of their song “10,000 Hours.” Additionally stated that Bieber’s song included samples from the 1973 song “The First Time Baby Is A Holiday,” written initially by Palmer Rakes and Frank Fioravanti.

The lawsuit by International Manufacturing Concepts, Melomega music, and Sound Gems explains that their song is nearly five years older than “10,000 Hours” and alleges there are “unmistakable similarities.” In terms of damages, the plaintiffs seek “credit on the track, money in damages, statutory damages, attorney fees — and an injunction preventing further distribution of the song.”
