Former Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg pled guilty Monday to two counts of perjury in the first degree and surrendered to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. The DA’s office is currently recommending five months in jail, but if he breaks the terms of his probation, he could face up to seven years in jail.

The perjury claims are related to testimony Weisselberg gave at a deposition in July of 2020 in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ case against former President Donald Trump. The DA alleged that Weisselberg lied under oath in the case about Trump’s wealth and financial statements. These statements were given to banks and insurance companies, intentionally misleading them.

The New York Appellate Court found Trump liable for falsifying these records, issuing false financial statements, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and conspiracy to falsify business records. The court returned a judgment ordering Trump to pay a total of $454 million. Trump appealed this judgment.

Weisselberg is still on probation for tax evasion on perks he received while serving the Trump Organization. The judge ordered Weisselberg to five months in jail, five years probation and payment of nearly $2 million in taxes. However, he only spent roughly 100 days in prison.

Weisselberg is set to be sentenced for the current perjury charges on April tenth.
