Virginia court disbars defense attorney for Oath Keepers, Proud Boys

A Virginia state court has disbarred Jonathon Moseley, an attorney who has represented January 6 Capitol riot defendants, finding that Mosely violated six of the Virginia State Bar Rules of Professional Conduct.

The Circuit Court of Prince William County found that Moseley violated “professional rules that govern safekeeping property; meritorious claims and contentions; candor toward the tribunal; fairness to opposing party and counsel; unauthorized practice of law, multijurisdictional practice of law; bar admission and disciplinary matters . . . and misconduct.”

In addition to his membership in the Virginia state bar, Moseley belonged to the bar of the federal court in DC in order to litigate Capitol riot cases. His membership to the federal court in DC was contingent on Moseley’s bar membership in another state or locality.

Moseley has represented high-profile Capitol riot defendants, including a top Oath Keepers member and a Proud Boys leader. The court’s ruling will have an impact on an upcoming trial of 11 Oath Keepers scheduled for July and other current clients.

Moseley stated that he will immediately file an appeal.
