Wachtell's New Co-Chairs Likely To Stay The Course With Their Leadership Style

If it ain't broke, don't fix it -- and Wachtell certainly isn't broken.

It works until it doesn’t, and I don’t mean that in a negative way. They don’t have a lot of partners leaving for other firms. They bring people up, some make partner, and they stay there for large portions of their careers. They are in a unique position.

— Jon Truster, a New York law firm recruiter and a partner at Macrae, in comments given to the American Lawyer on Wachtell’s steady approach amid a change in leadership after nearly two decades. Andrew Nussbaum, a corporate partner, and William Savitt, co-chair of the firm’s litigation department, will take the reins at the elite firm, and will likely maintain the traditional approach their predecessors took in leading the firm.
